Anna Apples

Here in the Southwest, we are not necessarily known for our Apples. However, we are able to grow fantastic apple such as the Fuji, Golden Dorsett, Gala, Granny Smith and my favorite, the Anna Apple.

Anna apples have a very low chill requirement of 150 hours in order to set fruit. (Chill requirement is the number of hours that the temperatures are less than 45 degrees during one season). That makes the Anna suitable for growing almost anywhere in the Southwest. (Including the desert).

The Anna is self-fruitful, meaning it does not have to have another Apple tree to pollinate with in order to produce fruit. (however, it does do well pollinating with the Golden Dorsett and Gala Apple).

The Anna blooms in the Spring with beautiful pale pink flowers and sets fruit heavily. (So heavy in-fact, that it often needs thinning in order to harvest larger fruit). The fruit is green on the tree, then turns yellow with a red blush as it ripens.

The fruit of the Anna is great for fresh eating and cooking, and it is the best tasting of all the apples you can find in the supermarket, and when you allow it to ripen on the tree, it tastes even better.
